Canadian authorities issued a large fine to a truck driver for striking a Saskatoon overpass while hauling heavy equipment earlier this year.
The overpass strike happened on March 5, 2026.
City officials said that a commercial truck hauling an excavator was traveling on Highway 11 when it struck the cloverleaf overpass for Highway 16 in Saskatoon.
“The impact sheared off the top part of the excavator and caused significant damage to the outer edge of the overhead structure,” said the City of Saskatoon.
On June 25, 2026, officials announced that the truck driver was issued a fine of $11,200, with 18 months to pay.
The fine comes after the driver pleaded guilty to damaging city infrastructure on June 24.
Bowline Logistics, the company that owned the truck, is also facing a traffic bylaw charge.
The City of Saskatoon has submitted an insurance claim to try to recoup repair costs for the damaged overpass.
