Truck driver jailed after illegal u-turn ends with car wedged under trailer

A truck driver is in jail after attempting an illegal u-turn in slow moving traffic in Florida on Monday. 

The accident happened on the afternoon of Monday, February 9th on Interstate 75 near the Hillsborough and Manatee County line in West Central Florida. 

According to Fox 13, traffic on northbound I-75 was moving slowly due to a vehicle fire near the Sun City Center exit when 45-year-old truck driver Julio Dones Rosa chose to attempt an illegal u-turn into the southbound lanes. During the u-turn attempt, a Toyota Corolla driven by a 28-year-old motorist crashed into the side of the flatbed trailer. The car ended up wedged beneath the trailer. 

The motorist sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital. Rosa was not hurt in the accident. 

Rosa was charged with reckless driving involving serious injury and was taken to jail. Rosa was still in jail as of Tuesday, February 10th. No further information has been released.
