Truck driver out-of-service after fellow driver reported axle issue to police, Arizona DPS says

A truck driver faced enforcement action after a fellow driver reported his unsafe vehicle to Arizona police.

The incident began when a “concerned truck driver” called police to report an unsafe commercial vehicle driving on I-40 between Flagstaff and Winslow, Arizona.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol trooper tracked the commercial vehicle to the westbound rest area near Meteor Crater, where it was parked.

The truck driver told the trooper that an “axle issue” had occurred five hours prior.

“Instead of stopping for proper repairs, the driver removed the tire, chained up the damaged axle, and continued driving – while also failing to maintain a required logbook,” AZDPS said.

The truck driver was issued “several citations” and placed out-of-service.

AZDPS invited anyone who sees an unsafe commercial vehicle to report it to police:

“Operating a commercial vehicle in this condition is extremely dangerous and puts everyone on the roadway at risk. If you encounter an unsafe vehicle, never hesitate to report it. Your call could prevent a serious crash.“
