Truck driver sentenced to community service without criminal charges after punching fellow driver in the face

A truck driver has been sentenced to community service without criminal charges after punching a fellow truck driver in the face at the Blue Water Bridge.

The fight sparked by a fender bender happened on March 6th, 2025 just after 2 a.m. on the Canadian side of the Blue Water Bridge connecting Michigan and Sarnia.

According to The Sarnia Observer, two semi trucks knocked into each other as they were both heading to the Canada Border Services Agency inspection area, inspiring one of the drivers to get out of his truck.

That driver, a 57-year-old veteran driver whose name has not been released, then “got out and punched a co-driver of the other vehicle in the face.” The co-driver was knocked to the ground by the punch, resulting in a swollen and bleeding nose.

The 57-year-old driver was arrested at the scene, charged, and released. In court, he pleaded guilty to one count of assault. Allegations of racial comments and an intentional collision were also presented in court, but those allegations have been dropped. The driver was found to have no prior criminal or driving record.

“It’s not like me… I apologize,” the driver said in court.

The driver was sentenced to a discharge conditional on completing six months of probation, which includes a ban on contacting the driver he punched and doing five hours of community service. If the community service is completed, the driver will walk away without a criminal record.
