A truck driver was shot by police after allegedly stalking a victim to an Ohio IHop and then leading police on a dangerous chase that injured several.
The incident started on the evening of Saturday, February 28th at a Springfield Township, Ohio IHOP.
According to Cleveland 19, police were called to the IHOP on reports of a truck driver threatening and stalking an individual at the establishment. The driver is believed to have traveled from Ohio to stalk the victim. Officers confronted as he was inside of his rig, but the man soon fled the scene in his bobtail semi truck.
Officers then located the rig at a nearby Walmart and attempted to remove the driver from the cab. The suspect then accelerated quickly, throwing two officers from the vehicle. One of those officers suffered a concussion and a broken leg. Other offices then continued the pursuit.
At one point in the pursuit, the driver hooked up a trailer, which is believed to be stolen. The truck was later located on East Market Street in Akron, Ohio.
“The driver of the semi went to the exit parking lot, struck several cruisers, headed westbound on East Market Street, struck a number of civilian vehicles as well, before striking another police cruiser,” said Lieutenant Michael Murphy, the Public Information Officer with Akron Police. “When our officers encountered him they fired multiple shots, striking him at least one time.”
The truck driver has not been identified and is currently hospitalized with injuries. No other information on the incident has been released.
