A truck driver was shot with pepper balls, tased, and arrested after plowing through the investigation of a fatal crash on I-40 in New Mexico.
The investigation and subsequent incident occurred on Monday, February 23rd on Interstate 40 near Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to KOB4, two lanes of I-40 were closed as officers investigated the scene of a previous crash that killed Sergeant Michael Schlattman. Schlattman had been conducting a routine traffic stop when, “while he was outside the vehicle, a semi truck struck the rear of his department-issued vehicle, ultimately pinning him beneath,” reported Police1.
During the subsequent investigation, a semi truck barreled through the crash investigation and lane closures with no headlights on, honking his horn and cutting other drivers off. Officers then pursued the tractor trailer and the driver eventually pulled over. As the driver climbed out of the driver’s seat, he flipped off the officers and hid in the back of the cab.
Officers then fired pepper balls at the driver and eventually tased him before they were able to remove him from the cab. He was arrested, and officers soon discovered that he was operating the CMV with an expired CDL and no registration or insurance.
The driver has not been publicly identified. He is charged with reckless driving, having an expired license and not having registration or insurance.
