Truck driver ticketed for 80 MPH speed violation on California roadway

California troopers made an example out of a semi truck driver who was caught speeding in Santa Barbara County.

According to a July 21 social media post from the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Santa Barbara Division, troopers recently stopped a tractor trailer traveling north at 80 m.p.h. on US-101 south of Fairview.

The driver was cited for traveling at more than 15 m.p.h. over the regulated speed limit and for exceeding California’s 55 m.p.h. speed limit for 3 axle vehicles.

CHP used the incident as a teaching moment to remind commercial truck drivers about the dangers of speeding.

“Commercial vehicles require significantly more time and distance to stop. At highway speeds, even a small increase can greatly increase the risk of a serious crash. Whether you’re behind the wheel of a passenger car or a big rig, slow down, stay alert, and obey the posted speed limit. Arriving safely is always more important than arriving a few minutes sooner,” CHP said.
