Truck driver who tried to skip California weigh station arrested for immigration violations, Border Patrol says

A truck driver was recently arrested at a checkpoint in California for immigration violations, U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) said.

On May 19 2026, USBP’s San Diego Sector announced the arrest of an Indian national working as commercial truck driver.

Officials said that the truck driver “attempted to circumvent a California Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (Weigh Station).”

The driver was then apprehended at an I-5 checkpoint near Temecula, California.

USBP said that the driver had illegally entered the U.S. in 2018 and had obtained a commercial driver’s license from California.

Following record checks, officers determined that the driver was subject to removal and arrested him.

USPB noted that trucking companies are responsible for verifying that drivers are legal to hire under U.S. law.

“Border Patrol plays a crucial role in protecting the nation by ensuring that even those who evade initial detection are ultimately apprehended and held accountable, thereby deterring future illegal entries and supporting community safety through successful interior enforcement operations. Employers who hire illegal labor are breaking the law, harming legitimate businesses, undermining fair labor standards, damaging the local economy, and the safety of our nation. All employers should use E-Verify to ensure they are adhering to federal labor laws,” the agency said.
