A truck driver was arrested on drunk driving charges after he was seen swerving and demonstrated very little English proficiency during interactions with troopers.
Calls reporting the swerving semi truck first came in at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7th on northbound Interstate 75 near the Sumter County and Hernando County line in Florida.
According to Villages-News, a trooper responded to the call and witnessed the semi truck nearly collide with an SUV. The trooper then pulled the semi truck over and identified the truck driver as 36-year-old Numon Azimov.
During their roadside interaction, Azimov was found to have very little English proficiency. The trooper determined that Azimov possessed a CDL issued in New York, and was a native of Uzbekistan.
Azimov performed very poorly during his field sobriety test and registered at .259 and .273 on a breathalyzer test – around seven times the legal limit. The trooper found a nearly empty container of the alcohol beverage BuzzBallz, and two additional empty containers discarded in other parts of the truck cab.
Azimov was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center. He posted $1,000 bond and has since been released.
