Truck hauling portable toilet stopped for ‘ejecting’ toilet paper along Arizona interstate

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) asked drivers to secure their loads after a recent toilet paper littering incident on I-40.

On July 20, 2026, an AZDPS Highway Patrol trooper performed a traffic stop on a truck hauling a portable toilet on I-40 in Arizona.

The trooper initiated the traffic stop “after noticing an unusual and hazardous sight,” which turned out to be the portable toilet “ejecting toilet paper onto the roadway, creating both a littering issue and a potential hazard for other drivers.”

AZDPS used the incident as a reminder that failure to secure your load can create dangerous driving conditions for yourself and others on the roadway.

“Whether you’re transporting equipment, personal items, construction materials, or even a portable restroom, all cargo must be properly fastened to prevent debris from entering the roadway. Unsecured loads can lead to dangerous distractions, collisions, or unexpected obstacles for other motorists. Before you hit the road, take a moment to double-check tie downs, doors, and straps on any item being transported. A few extra seconds can prevent crashes, keep Arizona roadways clean, and protect the safety of everyone traveling our highways,” officials said.
