Truck parking system launches on Kansas Turnpike

The Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) announced the launch of a system to provide commercial vehicle drivers with real-time information about truck parking availability at service areas.

KTA announced the launch of the system at all six Kansas Turnpike service areas on January 29, 2026.

Officials say that the system combines camera and sensor technology to identify a vehicle entering a service area as a commercial vehicle or a passenger vehicle.

The system then calculates available truck parking spaces and displays the information on roadways signs, “helping truck drivers make informed decisions about where to stop.”

The Kansas Turnpike system also includes alerts for vehicles traveling the wrong way after exiting a service area.

KTA says that the Turnpike truck parking system aligns with similar technologies put in place by the Kansas Department of Transportation, providing “consistency for truck drivers statewide.”
