Trucker cited for tailgating after four-wheeler tire nearly sends two vehicle off Leo Frigo Bridge

A truck driver was cited for following too closely after a tire came loose from a car, causing a chain reaction crash that almost sent the semi truck and one car off the side of a tall bridge. 

The accident happened on Friday, July 31st on the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Green Bay Police issued an update on the citations issued in the incident on Monday, August 3rd. 

According to WFRV5, a tire came loose from a car driving just ahead of a semi truck on the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge. The tire then struck multiple vehicles traveling on the bridge, causing a chain reaction crash involving a total of seven vehicles. 

The crash caused the semi truck to collide with a car and push it up against the bridge wall, leaving two of the car’s wheels hanging off of the bridge with the semi truck dangerously close to the edge. 

The truck driver has since been cited with following too closely. No information on other citations issued in the incident has been released.
