Trucker credits “beginner’s luck” for $100k lottery scratch off bought on a whim

A truck driver credits “beginner’s luck” for his $100,000 scratch off win after buying the ticket on a whim.

The truck driver picked up his winnings on May 4th at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the truck driver is from southern California and was taking a break at a Pilot Travel Center at 1 Center Drive in North East, Maryland when he noticed a lottery vending machine.

“Why not? I have time to kill,” he remembered saying to himself on a whim. He chose a $25 crossword scratch off ticket and ended up winning a $100,000 prize. He credits the win to “beginner’s luck” and says that playing the lottery is not a regular part of his life.

Now, the truck driver says he will use at least part of the money for a downpayment on a new house.
