Trucker hauling steel beam out-of-service after Arizona trooper finds strap, tint, lighting, and corrective lenses violations

A commercial vehicle and driver were ordered out-of-service for multiple violations discovered during a traffic stop on I-10 in Arizona.

Early on the morning of August 7, 2026, an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol trooper with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit stopped a semi truck hauling a large steel beam on I-10 in the Tempe area.

The trooper noted that the vehicle had an “obvious tint violation,” and also appeared to have fewer straps than required for the steel beam, measuring more than 60 feet in length.

During the traffic stop, the trooper observed only three straps on the load, so that the “load was missing several additional straps to meet the length requirement.”

Additionally, “the rear of the load projected 11 feet to the rear and was missing 2 required red flashing lights on the rear of the beam, as it was traveling before sunrise,” AZDPS said.

The trooper also discovered that the truck driver was not wearing required corrective lenses.

Both the truck driver and the vehicle were ordered out-of-service.

“Ensuring proper load securement, required lighting, and compliance with license restrictions protects everyone on our roadways. If you’re transporting oversized or projecting cargo, make sure your vehicle meets all safety and equipment requirements before you hit the road,” said AZDPS.
