Trucker in critical condition after being shot by 15-year-old in sedan on Texas roadway, sheriff says

A teenager is facing charges in connection with a shooting that left a truck driver with critical injuries in Harris County, Texas, on Wednesday morning, according to police.

The shooting occurred on the morning of January 7, 2026, near 11570 E Sam Houston Parkway N in Northeast Harris County, Texas.

The incident involved the male driver of a semi truck and the two occupants of a sedan .

The sedan occupants, a 23-year-old driver and her fifteen-year-old brother, told the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) that truck driver clipped their side mirror with trailer and they were trying to get him to stop.

“The teen allegedly fired once towards the struck, in an effort to get him to stop. The teen sat on front passenger’s window ledge and fired over the top of vehicle. The projectile went through the truck door and struck the truck driver,” HCSO said.

The sedan occupants were detained at the scene.

The truck driver is listed in critical but stable condition and has undergone surgery.

Police say that the fifteen year old has been charged with Aggravated Assault.

The investigation is ongoing.

“This type of behavior is reckless, dangerous, and unacceptable—especially on our roadways,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
