Canadian police applauded a truck driver for assisting them by sharing dash cam video of a motorist’s dangerous and illegal pass maneuver.
The video was captured on April 28, 2026, in British Columbia.
According to the BC Highway Patrol, a concerned citizen called in a report about a red Mazda hatchback driving dangerously on Highway 1 near Chase, BC, around 5:43 p.m
Soon after, an unmarked BC Highway Patrol cruiser was overtaken by a red Mazda hatchback going westbound on Highway 1 in Pritchard, BC.
Police said that the Mazda was traveling at speeds of 163 km/h (101 m.p.h.) in a 100 km/h (62 m.p.h.) zone when it passed the cruiser.
The officer performed a traffic stop on the Mazda.
During the traffic stop, a commercial truck driver also stopped and told police he had dash cam video of the Mazda driver performing an illegal pass over double-yellow lines. The truck driver told police he would provide the dash cam video and a witness statement, and he even offered to testify in traffic court.
The 59-year-old Mazda driver was issued the following:
“One of the dangerous issues with driving too fast is that your brain can’t process what your eyes should see- such as the police cruiser you’re passing at excessive speed,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “We’re grateful to the professional truck driver who did all the right things to prevent this comedy turning into a tragedy.”
