Truckers back to paper logs as FMCSA removes 12 ELDs from list of approved devices

Truckers have sixty days to act after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) added a dozen electronic logging devices (ELDs) to the agency’s list of revoked devices.

On May 20, 2026, FMCSA removed twelve ELDs from the list of approved devices for failure to meet minimum requirements.

Since January 2025, FMCSA has revoked approval from 79 ELDs for failure to meet minimum federal standards.

“Safety is not optional, and neither is compliance. FMCSA is serious about removing unsafe and unreliable electronic logging devices from the market and holding manufacturers accountable to federal safety standards. These standards are in place to help protect everyone traveling on American roads,” said FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs.

See below for a list of the devices revoked on May 20.

Carriers using one of these devices should stop using the revoked ELD and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours-of-service data.

FMCSA allows carriers up to sixty days to replace the revoked ELDs with compliant devices.

Prior to July 20, 2026, FMCSA advises law enforcement not to cite truckers using a revoked device. Officers should ask for paper logs, logging software, or the ELD display to verify hours-of-service information.

After July 20, 2026, truckers who continue to use the revoked devices will be considered to be operating without an ELD and should be cited and placed out-of-service, FMCSA said.
