The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) informed drivers of a new check policy now in effect at Port of Entry locations statewide.
Effective February 1, 2026, all checks at Colorado Port of Entry locations will be processed electronically.
The electronic check processing comes with a service fee of $1.
After processing, the checks will be returned to the customer with a receipt, according to CSP.
In January 2025, all Colorado Ports of Entry stopped accepting cash as a form of payment due to security concerns. Since that time, only checks and credit cards are accepted as forms of payment.
Colorado Ports of Entry are responsible for the collection of taxes, the issuance of permits, and the inspection of commercial motor vehicles for compliance with established safety regulations.
