Trucking company shot up for second time in series of extortion attempts

A trucking company in Ontario was shot up for the second time in two weeks in what police believe to be a series of extortion attempts.

The most recent shooting happened on January 6th at about 2:30 a.m. at a trucking company on Perdue Court, near Airport and Midfield roads in Caledon, Ontario, Canada. The first incident happened on December 26th.

According to CTV News, multiple shots were fired at the trucking company building, leaving multiple holes in the walls and destroying two front doors in a “targeted” incident. The first shooting on the day after Christmas happened in front of the building and was also described as “targeted.”

Investigators say that the crimes appear to be an extortion attempt that is a part of a larger “pattern of extortion” happening in the region through the use of phone calls and text messages.

“The callers often demonstrate knowledge of the individual’s home or workplace and the offences appear targeted toward members of the South-Asian community,” the OPP said in a release.

“(The victims of these crimes) are absolutely terrified. In fact, I spoke to someone this morning who is extremely terrified,” Caledon Mayor Annette Groves said.

“They are concerned not just for their safety and their family’s safety, but they’re concerned for their employees as well.”

Anyone who receives a threatening call or text message to report it to police immediately.
