Twenty-six truckers cited for left lane violations during aerial enforcement on Atchafalaya Basin Bridge

Louisiana State Police (LSP) took to the skies to target truckers using the restricted left lane on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

On August 13, 2026, LSP conducted commercial vehicle left lane enforcement on the I-10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge in St. Martin and Iberville parishes.

The enforcement detail was conducted in response to complaints from residents about trucks using the left lane in violation of the law.

Video shared by troopers shows both aerial and ground patrol units deployed as part of the left lane enforcement.

LSP conducted 26 commercial vehicle inspections and issued 26 citations to for disregarding traffic control devices requiring commercial motor vehicles to remain in the right lane.

Additionally, Louisiana troopers identified four additional safety violations.

One truck driver was taken out-of-service.

LSP plans to continue “proactive enforcement efforts to improve safety and keep traffic moving along the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.”

For years, trucks have been banned from the left lane of the 18-mile Atchafalaya Basin Bridge due to safety concerns.
