Two people were killed in a fiery crash along I-80 in the Green River, Wyoming, area on Sunday morning.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) responded to the crash at 5:23 a.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
βA semi truck was illegally parked on the right side of eastbound I-80. A second semi, in the left lane, drifted from the left lane into the right lane and continued drifting, striking the trailer of the parked semi. The second semi-truck exploded on impact and was fully engulfed in flames,β said WHP Public Information Officer Aaron Brown.
Both occupants of the truck that exploded died at the scene.
The driver of the parked semi truck was not injured.
WHP said that the surviving driver was issued a summons for illegal parking.
βIt is currently unknown why the second semi-truck drifted, so we are still investigating a cause of the crash,β Brown said.
Major semi truck backups were reported in the area.
I-80 reopened to traffic around 10 a.m. on Sunday.
