U.S. trucker facing charges after Border Patrol finds 22 people crammed in cab

A truck driver is facing charges after law enforcement agencies discovered nearly two dozen people inside the cab of a semi truck during a traffic stop in Texas.

According to an April 24 statement from U.S. Border Patrol, a semi truck was stopped on Highway 35 in the Laredo, Texas, area.

During the traffic stop, Border Patrol agents and the Laredo Police Department found “22 illegal aliens packed inside the cab: 19 from Mexico, 1 from Guatemala, and 2 unaccompanied minors from Mexico.”

The driver of the semi truck is now facing human smuggling charges.

“This is the grim reality of human smuggling—people crammed into unsafe spaces, with no regard for their safety. We continue to target, arrest, and prosecute human smugglers to the fullest extent of the law,” said U.S. Border Patrol.
