U-turn attempt sends truck driver to jail on homicide, possession, DUI charges, troopers say

A truck driver is in jail after a foggy u-turn attempt caused a crash that ended in multiple possession and a DUI charge for the driver. 

The incident happened on Saturday, March 7th at about 6 p.m. in the 4800 block of Fort Campbell Boulevard in Madisonville, Kentucky. 

According to WSMV4, 36-year-old truck driver Gerasimos Livieratos was heading south on Fort Campbell Boulevard when he attempted a u-turn in foggy conditions, blocking lanes of travel. A northbound sedan driven by 33-year-old Bernice Franklin then crashed into the trailer. 

Franklin was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

“Mr. Livieratos was arrested and charged with reckless driving, failure to or improper signal, improper turning, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance (1st offense, aggravated circumstance), and vehicular homicide when under the influence of drugs/substance. Mr. Livieratos was lodged in the Christian County Jail,” Kentucky State Police said.

The accident is still under investigation. No further information has been released.
