‘Unusual traffic crash’ ends with police cruiser partially under semi trailer, Missouri police say

A Grain Valley Police Department (GVPD) patrol vehicle was involved in a crash with a semi truck on Friday.

The crash occurred on Friday, May 29, 2026, on RD Mize Road, near the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) headquarters in Grain Valley, Missouri.

“A semi-tractor trailer attempted to back up in traffic to allow a large fifth-wheel travel trailer to complete a turn when the driver struck a marked GVPD patrol vehicle stopped behind the semi, pushing the patrol vehicle backwards several feet,” police said.

No injuries were reported, but the patrol vehicle sustained damage and will require repairs.

GVPD called the incident an “unusual traffic crash.”

“Please remember to drive attentively, use caution when backing up, and always wear seat belts!” police advised.
