The US Department of Transportation is taking steps to ‘beautify’ the country’s transportation infrastructure with the establishment of a special council.
The Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Council will be dedicated to advising policy and design for planned highways, bridges, transit hubs, and other necessary infrastructure with the goal of making the infrastructure ‘reflect local character’ in a more beautiful way than current structures.
The council will identify best practices, develop aesthetic performance metrics, and offer guidance on enhancing public spaces with hopes to ‘beautify’ these spaces. There are 11 members of the council, each serving two year terms.
“What happened to our country’s proud tradition of building great, big, beautiful things? It’s time the design for America’s latest infrastructure projects reflects our nation’s strength, pride, and promise,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “We’re engaging the best and brightest minds in architectural design and engineering to make beautiful structures that move you and bring about a new Golden Age of Transportation.”
