Police in California shared video footage of an escort accompanying semi truck hauling a large steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks.
On May 21, the Livermore Police Department (LPD) shared video of a motorcycle and first responder escort accompanying a semi truck hauling a 29,000-pound steel I-beam from the World Trade Center as it passed through Livermore, California.
The beam is headed for the Alameda County Fair, where it will be put on public display.
“Livermore Police Department was honored to participate in the escort and help ensure the safe transport of this important memorial piece honoring the lives lost and the enduring spirit of unity and resilience,” police said.

The beam is touring the U.S. as part of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Steel Across America tour in honor of those who lost their lives in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001.
The tour will span 10,500 miles, making more than 35 stops in 21 states and Washington, D.C.
“This steel beam represents the best of who we are as a country,” said Frank Siller, Tunnel to Towers Foundation Chairman and CEO. “As it travels from coast to coast, we hope this symbol brings communities together to remember the heroes we lost, honor the people still suffering from 9/11-related illnesses, support the families forever changed, and pay tribute to those who continue to protect and serve. Together, we must Never Forget.”
