Virginia cops call dump truck a ‘rolling violation’ and issue over a dozen citations for no CDL and more

The Chesterfield County Police Department (CCPD) said that a dump truck that officers recently encountered on a Virginia roadway was “a significant public safety threat.”

On January 15, 2026, CCPD highlighted a recent encounter involving a “dump truck that had been hauling asphalt all day long.”

The dump truck was inspected and placed out-of-service after officers uncovered several critical violations.

CCPD called the dump truck a “rolling violation” and issued over a dozen citations for violations discovered during the inspection, including, but not limited to:

  • No CDL
  • Wheel bearing leak
  • Brake inoperable
  • Audible air leak
  • 20% brake rule
  • Sock adjuster inoperable
  • No/insufficient DOT marking
  • Exposed belt tires
  • Less than 2/32 tread depth
  • Three brakes out of adjustment of the required eight
