Virginia troopers to conduct 48-hour ‘Operation DISS-RUPT’ on I-64

Virginia State Police (VSP) will take part in a traffic detail this week targeting dangerous driving behaviors including speeding and distracted driving.

On August 20 – 21, 2026, VSP will conduct “Operation DISS-RUPT” along the full length 299-mile of I-64.

During the traffic detail, troopers will target Distracted driving, Impaired driving, Speed compliance and Seat belt safety (DISS), with a goal of zero fatal crashes during the 48-hour enforcement period.

“Although we are seeing a decrease in fatalities across Virginia roadways, our mission to preserve life and protect the vulnerable continues,” said Captain Brian Olha, Commander of the Virginia State Police Chesapeake Field Division. “Virginian’s will see troopers along I-64 next week promoting safety through strategic presence.”

Ahead of the operation, VSP asked drivers to comply with the following to avoid citations or warnings:

VSP plans to continue Operation DISS-Rupt patrols on a rotating basis on Interstates 64, 95, 81, and 66.
