New border inspections repealed after Abbott reaches deal with Mexican states

Published:

Increased truck inspections at the Texas Mexico border have been repealed after Governor Abbott reached an agreement with several Mexican states.

Abbott dropped the new inspection rules after an agreement was reached on Friday, April 15th. The agreements outline new commitments to border security for Mexican states bordering Texas. The Governor of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas was the last of the bordering states to sign, reported Fox Business.

Abbott has since acknowledged the slowdowns at the border as a result of the inspection policies, but says he feels no regret about their implementation, calling them a “zero tolerance policy for unsafe vehicles” smuggling migrants. He also says that he will not hesitate to reinstate the increased inspections if Mexico does not hold up their end of the border security deal.

“I’m not hesitant to do so whatsoever,” Abbott said.
