Dash cam captures truck driver’s terror in near miss with stopped school bus

Published:

Dash cam from multiple vehicles captured a frightening close call involving a sand truck and a school bus that happened in Ohio this week.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on April 19 in Montville Township, Ohio.

In dash cam video provided by the Montville Police Department to News 5 Cleveland, you can see a school bus stopped in the northbound lane of State Route 57 with lights and stop arm activated.

A driver in a commercial vehicle hauling sand approaching the stopped bus is apparently unable to bring the vehicle to a stop. He can be heard on dash cam yelling, “Stop, stop, stop, stop, no!”

A pickup driver in the southbound lane realizes that the truck cannot stop and reverses, allowing the truck driver just enough room to thread the needle and avoid hitting the bus or any other vehicles.

The truck driver is eventually able to stop and dash cam appears to pick up his phone conversation with someone at the company. The driver allegedly drove the truck back to a truck yard before police could arrive on scene.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reportedly conducted an inspection to determine whether a mechanical defect was a factor in the crash, but the results have not yet been released.

Montville Police say that charges could be filed.

However, the Montville Police Department also took to social media to praise the truck driver’s actions: “Thanks to the quick and professional actions of the truck driver, what would have been a major crisis was avoided and many lives were likely saved.”
