POLICE: Trucker in intensive care after driving drunk down embankment

A truck driver is in intensive care after a DWI crash sent him veering down an embankment in North Carolina on Sunday night. 

The crash happened on June 12th in Sampson County, North Carolina. 

According to WITN News, 33-year-old truck driver James Butler was driving south on Highway 403 when he went off the right side of the highway, down an embankment, and onto Interstate 40, where it overturned into the westbound lanes. 

The crash left Butler seriously injured and he is currently in intensive care. Butler has been charged with operating a commercial vehicle with alcohol remaining in the body DWI commercial vehicle, and failure to maintain lane.

A second wreck occurred as a result of Butler’s crash, but no injuries have been reported. The westbound lanes of I-40 were shut down for around four hours for cleanup, but have since been reopened.
