Nearly 1400 Daimler trucks recalled for unexpected engine shutdown risk

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has issued a recall for certain Freightliner and Western Star trucks due to a possible engine control module defect that could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall was issued due to a defect within the engine control module, which may experience an internal short circuit. This could lead to an unexpected engine shutdown and increase the risk of a crash.

The DTNA recall affects a total of 1375 trucks, with an estimated 100% of the recalled vehicles expected to have the reported defect.

Affected truck models include the 2023 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, Cascadia, 2023 Freightliner FCCC MC, MT45, S2C 106CAB, XCM, S2RV 106CAB, XCR, XCS, and 2023 Western Star 4700, 49X, and 47X vehicles.

DTNA is currently at work on a remedy for the defect.

Truck owners affected by the recall are to be notified by letter starting on September 26, 2022.
