16 hurt in crash between bus carrying inmates, box truck, and passing pickup

16 people were hurt and one person was killed in a wreck that involved a bus carrying inmates, a box truck, and a pickup in Florida on Wednesday morning. 

The accident happened on September 21st in Osceola County, Florida just after 6 a.m. on State Road 60. 

According to Fox 13, a pickup was heading west on SR60 when it attempted to pass another car in the westbound lane by entering the eastbound lane. The pickup then came close to an eastbound box truck and both vehicles swerved in an attempt to avoid a crash, but collided anyway. The box truck was then struck from behind by a bus. 

FHP reports that conditions were foggy and dark at the time of the crash. A passenger in the pickup was pronounced dead on scene, and the driver of the pickup and the driver of the box truck were airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries. They are now said to be in stable condition. 

14 of the 23 inmates on the bus were also taken to nearby hospitals, all with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash is still under investigation.
