Gas tanker truck driver killed following crash and explosion in Ohio

A tanker truck driver lost his life early Friday morning in a crash in Stow, Ohio.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on October 28.

A tanker truck driver hauling gasoline overturned on State Road 8 between Steels Corners Road and Graham Road near mile marker 8.

The crash resulted in an explosion.

By the time that rescue crews arrived on the scene, the truck was fully engulfed in flames.

The truck driver died in the crash. His identity has not yet been released.

Both directions of SR 8 were closed for hours for cleanup and investigation of the crash. The northbound lanes reopened around 4:30 a.m. One lane of southbound SR 8 reopened as of 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

The Stow Police Department says that the road is safe to drive on, but is asking drivers to avoid the area if possible.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
