OTR driver sentenced to life for double homicide after catching wife and her lover on hidden camera

This week, a Texas-based truck driver was sentenced for killing two people in 2018 following an eight day trial in Harris County.

On Tuesday, truck driver Jordy Husein Suljanovic, 46, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the capital murder of his wife Adriana Perez, 41, and her boyfriend, Omar Santamaria-Ruiz, 33.

Perez and Santamaria-Ruiz were shot to death in a closet in the master bedroom of the home of Suljanovic and Perez in Houston on October 2, 2018.

From Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg:

Suljanovic, a Bosnian refugee who became a long-haul truck driver, had installed a secret camera at his home and was monitoring it while driving. When he saw his 41-year-old wife and her 33-year-old lover at the house, he returned home and killed both of them, waking their children in the middle of the night with the gunshots. After the slaying, Suljanovic and his adult son took both bodies to Louisiana and dumped them. Santamaria-Ruiz’s body was dumped in the woods outside of Natchitoches, La.

Suljanovic’s 21 year old son admitted to dumping his mother’s body near the Atchafalaya River and pleaded guilty last year to tampering with evidence — namely a corpse — in exchange for a five-year prison sentence, officials said.

According to Ogg, in the weeks after the fatal shooting, Suljanovic sold his house in Houston and fled to Mexico City with his son, two daughters, and his son’s girlfriend, who was 16.

When Suljanovic learned he would be charged with double homicide, he tried to flee with his family to Bosnia, but was detained by law enforcement during a layover in London. He was then returned to Texas and arrested by the Houston Police Department and the FBI.
