Traffic cams capture semi crash that critically injured Minnesota police officer

Minnesota Department of Transportation traffic cameras captured a serious multi-vehicle crash that seriously injured an officer from the Eagan Police Department last week.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on March 14, 2023, in Eagan, Minnesota.

A report from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety outlines the events leading to the crash:

An Eagan Police Department squad merged onto northbound Interstate 35E from Pilot Knob Road and was traveling in the right lane of 35E, with emergency lights activated, responding to an emergency call. The squad attempted to make a left turn at the median cross over at Yankee Doodle Rd, and collided with a semi traveling northbound. After the initial crash, a third vehicle was hit on the passenger side, before the squad came to rest in the center median.

Officer Kade Eggum, 22, suffered critical injuries.

According to the latest update from the Eagan Police Department, he remains in critical but stable condition and is improving.
