Six Maryland road workers killed in crash involving two passenger vehicles

Published:

Maryland State Police (MSP) and federal authorities are investigating a crash involving passenger vehicle drivers that claimed the lives of six highway workers on Wednesday.

The crash occurred at 12:40 on March 22 on I-695 at Security Boulevard in Woodlawn, Maryland.

Troopers say that the initial investigation indicates that Acura driver Lisa Adrienna Lea, 54, attempted to move from Lane 2 to Lane 1 when she struck the front corner panel on the passenger side of a Volkswagen driven by Melachi Brown, 20.

MSP says that this crash caused Lea to lose control of the Acura, sending it into the work zone, striking the workers.

Six workers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Lea was hospitalized with injuries. Brown was not hurt.

The crash is under investigation by MSP and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Baltimore County State’s Attorney, according to MSP.

Anyone with information relevant to the crash is asked to call the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack at 410-780-2700.
