Trucker’s girlfriend delivers a son day after crash off CBBT

The partner of the truck driver killed in last week’s crash off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT) in Virginia Beach, Virginia, gave birth within a matter of hours after his death.

On June 22, 36 year old truck driver Chris Scott was northbound on the CBBT near mile marker 1 when he crashed off the bridge and into the bay below.

After an extensive search involving the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies, Scott’s body was found still inside the cab of the submerged truck on Friday, June 23.

According to a GoFundMe in support of Scott’s girlfriend Melissa Vo, Vo gave birth to the couple’s son on June 23, the same day that Scott’s body was recovered.

Vo posted a public message on her social media channel commemorating Scott:

“YOU WILL FOREVER BE MISSED, YOU HAD SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SOUL & WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK AND I KNOW YOUR WATCHING OVER US. OUR SON WILL KNOW HIS DAD AND HOW BIG OF A HEART HE HAD.”

Scott leaves behind two other children in addition to his newborn son.

WNCT reports that Scott earned his CDL in August 2022 and hoped to own several of his own trucks one day.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel police.
