Trucker uninjured after “unsafe speed” causes explosion in gas station parking lot

A truck driver was unhurt after he lost control of his rig and crashed into a gas station in a fiery wreck.

The accident happened on September 6th just before 2 a.m. in Hico, Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that the truck driver was “traveling at an unsafe speed and failed to maintain a single lane” while heading south on U.S. 281 near Highway 6. Because of the “unsafe speed,” the driver “lost control and collided with a traffic light pole and ran into the parking lot of the Yesway gas station.”

The semi truck then rolled onto its side and exploded. The explosion brought down a section of the gas station awning and completely destroyed the semi truck.

The 22-year-old truck driver was not hurt in the accident. A 33-year-old male passenger in the truck sustained a “non-incapacitating injury” in the wreck and was taken to a hospital, reported KWTX News.

The accident is still under investigation.
