“Argumentative” driver charged with murder after police discover woman dead on his floorboard

Published:

A truck driver has been charged with murder after a woman found dead on floorboard of his truck outside of a Costco distribution center in Maryland on Sunday.

The incident happened on September 24th at about 1:30 a.m. near a Costco distribution center in Frederick County, Maryland.

According to NJ News, police arrived at the distribution center after receiving calls reporting a truck driver had broken his own window. When officers arrived, they found 46-year-old Matthew S. Watley was under the influence and “argumentative,” so they placed spike strips around his truck to prevent him from leaving.

Watley then attempted to flee in his rig anyway, and continued to drive even after he rolled over the spike strips. He stopped at the exit of the distribution center, but refused to exit the rig. Officers eventually pepper sprayed Watley, but he stayed in the truck, so they broke another window on the cab and used a stun gun to take him into custody.

Upon investigation of the truck, officers discovered the body of a woman on the floorboard of the cab. She has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

Watley is now facing charges of first and second degree murder. He is being treated at a hospital under the guard of police deputies. No further information has been released.
