Deadly ‘super fog’ pileup shuts down I-10 in New Orleans

Louisiana transportation officials have closed both directions of I-10 in New Orleans for multiple crashes amid “super fog” conditions.

On Tuesday morning, fog combined with smoke from a marsh fire contributed to low visibility conditions, resulting in several crashes on I-10 at Michoud Boulevard in New Orleans.

WDSU reports that one person involved in a crash was transported to a hospital, where they passed away from their injuries.

Several other people are reported injured.

Eastbound and westbound I-10 is closed at Michoud Boulevard. Ten mile traffic backups have been reported. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes.

This is a developing story.

Super fog was also blamed for an October 23 pileup crash that occurred on I-55 in Manchac, Louisiana. That crash involved 168 vehicles and left seven people dead and dozens more injured.
