Police arrest truck driver for fatally striking fellow trucker in Tennessee Pilot parking lot

Police have made an arrest in the death of a trucker fatally struck by a big rig in a Tennessee Pilot parking lot.

The White Pine Police Department (WPPD) announced that 70 year old Tennessee-based truck driver John R. Emery Jr. was served an arrest warrant at 10:30 a.m. on February 2.

Police say that Emery was booked into the Jefferson County Jail in connection with the death of Alabama trucker Gary M. Clark, 64.

Around 6:50 p.m. on January 12, Clark was found deceased by another truck driver in the lot in the rear of Pilot Travel Center located on Roy Messer Highway in White Pine, Tennessee.

Police said that at about 6:30 p.m., Clark was struck by the front passenger side of a truck pulling into the fuel island. The driver police identified as Emery did not obtain fuel but went inside the Pilot and purchased several items, leaving the store about 20 minutes after entering.

From WPPD: “Other drivers notified the driver that someone had been run over behind his truck, and he needed to stay. He decided to leave the parking lot and head south on Interstate 81.

Emery was identified as the truck driver involved by January 14. On January 29, the investigation was complete and a warrant for Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death or Injury was issued.
