Police find trucker lying in road after fiery wreck

Published:

Police arrived at the scene of a wreck to find a trucker lying in the road early on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened on February 27th at 2:23 a.m. in Northbrook, Illinois on Interstate 294 at Lake Cook Road.

According to CBS News, first responders arrived at the scene to find a FedEx semi truck on fire and a man in the roadway.

“At this time it seems that the person on the road was the driver from the semi,” said Northbrook Fire Chief Steve Morris.

The truck driver was then taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition and soon succumbed to his injuries.

After investigating the incident, police determined that the FedEx truck hauling double trailers had collided with a guardrail, ejecting the truck driver and causing the rig to catch fire.

Firefighters responding to the scene cut the roof off of one of the trailers as they battled the flames.

No further information has been released.
