Trucker dead in crash near I-64 runaway truck ramp in West Virginia

A truck driver lost his life in a crash near a runaway truck ramp in Raleigh County, West Virginia, over the weekend.

The fatal crash occurred shortly before noon on August 10, according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO).

Police say that Jeffrey Howard, 62, of Ohio, was operating a tractor trailer when he crashed near the I-64 eastbound Sandstone Mountain escape ramp.

After crashing, the truck caught fire.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other occupants were inside the truck.

Police say no other vehicles were involved.

RCSO did not provide any information on mechanical or brake failure associated with the crash.
