Driver burned after falling asleep and crashing into second trucker

A truck driver was burned in a truck fire after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a second semi truck in Michigan on Wednesday. 

The accident happened on August 21st in Ionia County, Michigan on westbound Interstate 96  at Jordan Lake Road in Berlin Township. 

According to MLive News, a 50-year-old trucker fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into another tractor trailer, sparking a fire. 

The drowsy driver was able to escape his wrecked rig through a window, but did sustain burns in the fire. The second driver was not injured in the accident. 

The drowsy driver was transported to a hospital for treatment of his burns. The extent of his injuries are not known, but he is expected to survive. 

No further information on the accident has been released.
