Driver fatally impaled after rear-ending log truck

Published:

A man suffered fatal injuries in a crash outside of a North Carolina paper mill on Wednesday.

The crash occurred on October 2 near the International Paper paper mill in Columbus County, North Carolina.

Local firefighters say that as a log truck turned to enter the paper mill facility, it was struck from the rear by a box truck.

The box truck driver was struck by a log about 3 inches in diameter, which impaled him in the stomach.

Firefighters used a chainsaw to remove the log. The box truck driver was extricated from the cab and transported to a hospital.

Unfortunately, shortly after midnight on October 3, the box truck driver succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash while in the hospital.
