Motorist claims self-defense in fatal shooting of truck driver on Tennessee interstate

Published:

The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is investigating a fatal shooting involving a motorist and a truck driver that occurred on I-24 on Tuesday.

Around 3:40 p.m. on November 5, CPD responded to I-24 near Germantown Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Officers found a 27 year old truck driver from New York at the scene suffering from life-threatening injuries.

CPD says that the initial investigation indicates that a semi truck cut off a sedan and forced the car into a concrete construction barrier. Police say that the semi truck driver exited his vehicle and assaulted the 28 year old driver of the sedan, a Georgia resident.

Police say the sedan driver shot the truck driver, then called 911 and stayed at the scene. He was detained by police and reportedly claimed to have acted in self-defense.

The truck driver was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

CPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating the sedan driver’s claims of acting in self-defense.

If you have information, you’re asked to call CPD’s Homicide Tip Line at (423) 643-5100.

I-24 east was closed in the area for hours but reopened around 7 p.m.
