126 truck violations uncovered during commercial vehicle blitz on U.S. 30 in Indiana

Indiana State Police (ISP) released results from a “focused enforcement blitz” targeting trucks traveling on U.S. 30.

ISP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) conducted the enforcement operation on April 11 on U.S. 30 from the Illinois state line to the Ohio state line.

During the U.S. 30 enforcement effort, ISP troopers were focused on the following top 10 crash causation factors:

• Following too closely
• Failure to obey a traffic control device
• Improper/unsafe lane change
• Excessive speeding and speeding too fast for conditions
• Failure to yield right of way
• Operating a CMV while Ill or Fatigued
• Failure to wear a seatbelt while operating a CMV
• Using/equipping a CMV with a radar detector
• Texting while driving a CMV
• Hand-held cell phone use in a CMV

See below for results of the U.S. 30 blitz:

• 47 speeding violations (15 tickets, 32 warnings)
• 7 seatbelt violations
• 43 other violations
• 2 criminal defendants
• 29 level 3 truck inspections
• 10 level 2 truck inspections
• 3 level 1 truck inspections
• 126 total truck violations noted in those inspections
