A truck driver is facing trial for attempted murder after shooting a fellow driver stranded on the side of the road for no apparent reason.
The shooting happened back in 2024 along Interstate 470 in Belmont County, Ohio. The trial began on July 29th and is expected to last four days.
According to WTRF, truck driver Michael Brundage was standing outside of his semi truck after pulling onto the shoulder of I-470 speaking to a mechanic on the phone. A second truck driver, 32-year-old Malcolm Williams, then stopped his rig alongside Brundage, who thought the driver was stopping to help. Williams then pulled out a gun and shot Brundage through the head.
Brundage miraculously survived and maintained consciousness, managing to text a selfie of his injured face to his company. The company immediately called 911 for him. Brundage has since recovered from his injuries.
“Without warning, without provocation, without anything to justify this action. Mr. Brundage was shot in the head. The bullet goes through his right cheek, shatters his jawbone and exits in the back of the neck,” said Kevin Flanagan, a Belmont County Prosecutor.
Brundage described his attacker who shot at him for no apparent reason as a black man operating a white semi truck with a blueish green logo featuring three letters. Investigators were able to locate Williams in Michigan through the use of GPS tracking, a ballistics match, video from other trucker’s dash cams, and other evidence.
Williams is charged with attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, and discharging a weapon in a prohibited area.
