The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently used a truck driver’s bad day as a teaching tool on the importance of completing your pre-trip inspection.
Over the weekend, troopers with CHP’s Merced Division were called to a roadway the Modesto area after a semi truck lost its trailer in transit.
Troopers said that no one was hurt and that no other vehicles were involved.

From CHP:
“This serves as a reminder of why commercial drivers are required to complete a full pre-trip inspection before getting on the road. A thorough inspection helps ensure that every component, from brakes to couplings, is secure and in proper working order.
Commercial vehicles differ greatly from passenger cars. Their size and weight mean that any equipment failure can have far more serious consequences. That is why our commercial inspection facilities are so important. These facilities conduct regular safety checks on trucks and trailers, and our mobile road enforcement officers perform inspections on the highway to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
We are thankful this incident ended safely and want to remind all commercial drivers to take the time to perform their inspections and never bypass inspection facilities. Safety on our highways depends on everyone doing their part.“
